In this Issue: Shawn Wildermuth, Andrej Tozon, Mark Monster, AfricanGeek, Allan Muller, nmarun, David Anson, Jesse Bishop, Fredrik Normén, Alan Mendelevich, and Laurent Duveau.

Shoutout:

The Thirsty Developer posted a new PodCast last week:

If you've got something good posted and haven't seen it yet, kick my tires. With the new bits hitting just before I was gone for 4 days, I just counted and have 52 tagged posts queued up... I'll get there, it's just going to take a few days.

From:

Shawn Wildermuth takes a long look at Brad Abrams' PDC RIA Services talk and rebuts/gives his opinion(s). Check out all the comments as well.

Andrej Tozon has a post up at SilverlightShow about building a weathermap using the BingMaps control and Silverlight... wow does this look good! Somebody do that for the U.S. so I know what's going on when I go camping:)

Mark Monster has been blogging (and writing code) about Credentials since SL2 as proven by links on his post. So what about SL4B? Read Marks write-up to see.

AfricanGeek has Video 8 of his Silverlight 3 Series up... and this is on putting up a Media Player in response to selecting an item in the Media ListBox on a page... it's clearly marked as a new video in the carousel:)

Allan Muller's latest is on the ClientAccessPolicy. This has been around since Silverlight 2, but a good explanation is always good because a good understanding is needed. He includes a couple good external links as well.

nmarun has an end-to-end post up with all the code available for dragging images (jpg) into a wrap panel. But wait, there's more! You can select an image and save it to your system (png)... good job!

Sharing isn't easy for anyone [Tricks for sharing the same XAML files across Silverlight and WPF]

David Anson got some negative feedback on a general-case use of a subclass trick he used in his DataVisualization post. If you don't care about HierarchicalDataTemplate, you can use his previous method, but if you need that or want a more robust solution, check out his latest.

Here's a very useful post... Jesse Bishop discusses not only changing themes at run-time but downloading, extracting, and distracting the user while doing so... all with an example and all the code -- go get it now!

Fredrik Normén discusses asynchronous validation and how that eases up displaying the validation error indicator in Silverlight 4B by the use of INotifyDataErrorInfo. Code and explanation included.

Alan Mendelevich has Part 5 of his WPF/Silverlight compatible code series up. He expands on Part 4 and discusses WPF's OverrideMetadata method, and a "not so pretty" Silverlight solution.

Laurent Duveau has a quick post up showing off Silverlight 4B MouseWheel support with project download.

Stay in the 'Light!
