Silverlight Cream for September 12, 2008 -- #367

Nikolay Raychev on SL and Localization, Chris Koenig on Style, WPF and SL, ux.artu.tv with developer training, Andy Beaulieu on finding Media Elements, Michael S. Scherotter with SL2 text to Word2XAML, Terence Tsang with Waving Text, Joel Neubeck with a SL Rating Control, Jesse Liberty begins a Custom Control series, and Jonas Follesø on WCF Authentication.

Somasegar blogged about the new Social Bookmarking platform. I've created an account on MSDN, using the name "Dave [WynApse]" and I'm archiving bookmarks out there... Silverlight and others. I'm only doing the Silverlight ones there ALSO because maybe devs will look at that site instead of SilverlightCream, but they're all going into SC as well.

Martin Grayson announced New Patient Journey Demonstrator at MSCUI.net... and has a great-looking post showing off all the new features and enhancements... somebody has been having fun!

From:

Internationalization / localization in Silverlight

Nikolay Raychev takes a good solid swing at a very difficult task: localiztion in Silverlight... good job, good information, lots of code and resources as always!

Adding Style to WPF and Silverlight Apps at DDNUG

Chris Koenig gave a presentation at the Dallas.NET User Group, and has his slides and material uploaded. Even if you're not near Dallas, material is always good!

I don't know who is responsible for ux.artu.tv, but they've produced some video training at Total Training called "UI Design for Developers" -- Note: you can get a 'guest pass' for Total Training, but I don't know what it might cover... but their training is NOT free.

Getting "Cheap" Media Elements

Andy Beaulieu was queried about where he got some of the media he used in his "Hook Shot" game, and has responded with good info and some links too

Added Silverlight 2 Text to WordToXaml (formerly WordFlowDocumentCreator)

Michael S. Scherotter updated what had been WordFlowDocumentCreator using Silverlight 2 and has it all on CodePlex... this is a Word 2007 Addin that "...uses XSLT to transform the Microsoft Office Open XML for Word 2007 to WPF XAML rooted with a FlowDocument"

Silverlight vs Flash: Waving Text

Of course I couldn't get one-ahead on Terence Tsang... and wow... check out that waving text... how cool is THAT!!

Templated Silverlight Rating Control

Joel Neubeck posted a very nice tutorial on building a Rating Control in Silverlight... don't skip this!

The difference between understanding a concept…

Jesse Liberty, back from being hospitalized away from home... yuck... how bad is THAT!... kicks off a series on Custom Controls in Silverlight... just enough information to have us all clicking update on his blog waiting for the next one:)... glad you're back and well, Jesse!

Jonas Follesø was apparently planning on taking his DiveLog code into WPF and ran into Authorization issues which led him down the path of WCF Auth and Silverlight... all to our benefit!

Stay in the 'Light!
