Google Mail on the Mobile

To some the whole idea of Google going mobile is a bit of a shock. To me it is a logical step. What things do we have with us at all times to access data anytime, anywhere, anyplace... that would be our mobile phones. Here in the UK the majority of people own at least one mobile phone. (Some of us have at least one...) The question is why don't other companies utilise this statistic and provide data to this relatively untapped market.

Years ago I wondered when the message to mobile stuff would start happening and i don't just mean mail to mobile. That is a relatively small step. I had a look at the mail to mobile tool that Google have provided. (On your mobile go to http://m.gmail.com). To be honest it is nothing new of flashy... Just mail in a format that mobile can read.

Unfortunately when I tried to access Gmail Mobile I found it's inputs to be case sensitive and hard to get data inputted... and that's without trying to respond to an e-mail! The redirection got stuck and nothing was available to see presumably because I had no unread mails... I won't go on. To improve the service they would need to notify users that they have mail there to look at... Show old mails and get rid of the redirection thing coz that just gets annoying. Unfortunately those key components aren't there... /p>

The simple answer the notifications issue would be to have Gmail Notifier or GTalk on the mobile for notifications... then you would have voice over GPRS or VOIP... and then the network providers would have to re-think their strategies in terms of mobile.

We are already seeing VoIP or Skype phones coming into a few homes. And about time too. The technology has been about for long enough now. When will we get message push to mobile based on location aware softwares on mobile? We have PDA style phones now with integrated GPS.... it shouldn't be long now surely?

Then there is the question of podcast from phones... (to phones... ) Location aware advertising... Bluetooth push advertising... (could have been done years ago! Where is it!? Especially with Bluetooth 2.0 coming out!)

Let me know what you think. Thoughts, ideas, comments and criticisms welcome!

Clearly, they need someone to point this stuff out to them.
