The Girly Geek dinner is TONIGHT!

Well the day has finally arrived when the girls in technology meet up at last. The question is how will it all go. Will everyone be really nice to each other or will it be an I'm better than you are fest. (I hope not!)

It looks like the organisation for the event has gone pretty smoothly thanks to a few very helpful people. (You know who you are! Thank you!) I'm sure it will be a very eventful evening and I am looking forward to it.

A few tips to the newbies to the world of Geekdom.
- Don't be phased by people talking techie at you... You can just ask them to explain in simple english terms. They won't be offended.
-There is no need to be nervous, everyone is in the same boat, just be yourself and have fun.
- If you find yourself wondering what to talk about, just ask people a few questions. Any subject, whatever you like.
- By the end of the evening everyone gets tired of telling each other what they do, so try to think of something different to talk about to capture their attention.
- Try not to look too scared or like a startled rabbit when you arrive. Look around see what and who is where, and then work out where you would like to be and who you want to talk to.
- Bring your business cards with you. Most of all just make sure you have a great time and make some good contacts in the industry.

See you there!

Hi Kaisa,

To be honest, I just hadn't seen any of the girls at our geek events, so I decided to try and find a way to get them out in the open. I'm sure you could start something out in Norway. There are techie girls all over the world. Norway is really not that different to London in that sense.

It's worth giving it a try if you fancy it. Alternatively if you decide to come over to England at some point let us know and we can see if we can organise an event when your over here!

Remember to download the podcasts after the event. i believe they will be on the Wiki after the event.

Maybe geek dinners is the way to go. I'm trying to participate in user group activities in Oslo, and there might be 2-3 other women than me. (Check the link with my name, blog post I wrote last year.)

But it might be easier to get them to come to a geek dinner instead of a user group meeting.

Will you have an agenda, or will it just be up to anyone to talk tech with their neighbour? (Couldn't see it in the other posts.)

I'll definately give you a notice when I go back to London. (Had a few days there in the end of July.)

have fun! I'll be there in spirit. By the way, there are lots of girls in our user group. I think at our July meeting there were 10 including myself and the speaker. And that wasn't even all of our female user group members attending!

I want to come!

... I'm just not much of a girlie. (Well I don't look like one much, act like one maybe?)

The wife refuses to be a Geek for the evening, so any girlies I can 'borrow'?

:-)

Next time Mr! You should have posted on the wiki that you needed to borrow one of the girls... You could have got an invite no problem.

It was a fun evening. It's a shame you didn't make it. I'm sure I'll see you at the next event though!
