Backward Compatibility

Here is a nice simple question for someone who has been playing with VS 2005 with SQL Server 2000. Is Visual Studio 2005 backwardly compatible with the old SQL Server 2000 stuff?

Basically we have a large quantity of data on SQL Server 2000 and the source feeding this at the moment is on the old 1.1 framework. We are considering upgrading to 2.0 but we aren't ready at this time to upgrade the server, hence wishing to use it with SQL Server 2000.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

Did you have to do anything to the existing source to ensure that the data access components still worked, ie use the new versions of them or did the old ones just work?

It is backwards compatible. I'm not sure about the desktop projects, I know (from experience) that you can create (and use existing) projects that target .NET CF 1.0 and all that entails.
