Theo Moore Questions... Morphology? Longevity? Incept dates?

I ran into a perplexing issue with VS2005 today. I am attempting to inherit a user control using the "Inherited User Control" template in VS2005. A dialog appears telling me that I don't have an inheritable items currently in my project, and I don't. I browse to the assembly containing the user control I want to inherit, and I get a dialog box that states:

Unable to load assembly (path). Ensure it is a valid .Net Framework assembly

I've found some mention of this on the web, most notably here, but nothing solid. Most of the time, it seems to be in a solution that has been migrated from VS2003 at some point (which I believe the app I am working on has). I can, of course, create other user controls and these are inherited just fine. I checked MSDN, but the answer wasn't really very helpful. More on this when (IF) I figure this out.....
