SkyDrive, Google Docs access through Explorer

I am both a Google docs and Windows SkyDrive user, one thing however that I am always thought would help, especially with SkyDrive, as its essentially a backup tool for me is being able to access through Windows explorer (or FTP would suffice!). Well I have found a little app that does just that!! It’s from Gladinet and the catch line is “Delivering cloud services to your desktop and operating system”, it does connect to other things like Azure blob store and Amazon. You can download a free version...

The Cloud: Is there a perfect solution?

I am talking in the context of services such as Google Docs. I don’t have a huge amount of documents, but I simply don’t have the perfect solution for having these docs available anywhere and everywhere I am. I like many users I expect work on/want access to docs in different locations and on different machines. Google docs seems like a perfect solution, but when you don’t have an Internet connection, like when you are on a plane for example, its not a good solution at all. Then there are services...

Live search for your blog with GWB, MSDN and Web integrated search

Check out my new live search component to the right here -> I came across this on Heather Solomon's blog, thought it was cool so had a play and set one up for my blog. To start with get yourself over to http://search.live.com/site... select the advanced option. I think it only works if you have your blog on a custom domain like blog.steveclements.net as www.geekswithblogs.net/stev... doesn't work. I also created a live search macro for geekwithblogs.net and used and existing one for msdn...

ASP.net Wiki and my thoughts...

Reading Scott Hanselman's blog this morning, he stated that MS have released ASP.net Wiki. The idea is basically a "one-stop-shop" for all things asp.net to save people the time of googling and going through the results. First of all I thought that sounded like a good idea, but thinking about it I'm not so convinced and let me tell you why! Looking through the wiki, what I basically see is a carefully selected collection of links to various posts on a particular subject, now of course the wiki is...

MIX UK 07: Panel Discussion - Cloud versus Client

The final session yesterday was a panel of developers including ScottGu, Angus Logan, Danny Thorpe from MS and some guys from other companies associated with MS (sorry I forget there names, perhaps someone would be kind enough to leave them in the comment so I can add them in?!). This raised some interesting points regarding, single point of failure for all web applications (being the users connection), this was then a fall guy for things in the cloud never being "as good". Points raised around security,...

TIP: Silverlight doesn't install on Vista - or so it seems!

So recently I have been trying to play with VS Orcas and Silverlight but hit a huge wall. After installing Orcas, the silverlight add-in for it and the silverlight Alpha runtime I still was unable to view any silverlight content, the same "Install Silverlight" graphic would appear. After some considerable google time I found this link from Walt Ritscher and one of the comments did the trick. Basically... 1. Close IE72. Un-install all versions of silverlight runtime3. Delete the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{...

Out with Onfolio, in with Reader

I have been using Onfolio blog reader since I installed MSN Live toolbar sometime ago; its nothing special but does the job. The biggest problem for me is that onfolio stores state offline so when I read a blog at work (during lunch of course!) it gets marked as read but then when I go home I have to mark it as read again....bit of a pain but at the time I had a look at Google reader and didn't like it so stuck it out with Onfolio. Recently I installed Vista and Office 2007 and to my surprise lots...
