IE8 Add to Favorites Button Gone



Am I the only one that doesn't see the "Add to Favorites" button on the tool bar anymore?  I see that can "Add to the Favorites" tool bar, but that isn't what I want to do.  I can right click on the page and click on "Add to Favorites", but that's not what i want to do either.  Hmm..

Look in the Favorites drop down. You have to be viewing the Favorites Bar to see the star button with the green arrow.

Yeah...that's the change from IE7 that I don't like. Some people wanted to get the real estate back, but I liked the ease of just clicking and adding the favorites....1 click.

All I have is the ie7 style faves button. When I click it all I can do is add to faves ?
I have installed ie8 again and still all I get is add to faves. This is disapointing when you think of all the testing done. I guess Microsoft is punishing us for not going to Vista. But from what I know I would have even more disapointmnets with that nightmare. I hope Windows 7 works properly and runs all P2P progs.

If anyone has a fix for ie8 favorites please email me. I have been enjoying blue screens and crashes since 1991.
I have a huge bag of tricks for Windows, but not this yet, yarghhh !!!

Workaround is to use the keyboard shortcut

Ctrl + D

I can't even find the "Favorite" Bar. Where is it? Where are my "Favorites"? and where is the "Add To Favorites"? located? Thanks.

You can get it back by just unlocking the toolbars. Then just drag the little star with the "Favorites" label on it down to the tabs level. If you right click on it again, you can select "customize" and switch it to "Show only Icons" and it's pretty much the way it was in IE7.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.... JMcG .......I HATE THE WAY GOOGLE HAS TAKEN CONTROL OF MY SCREEN...........(Or maybe I let them install some stupid stuff.......BUT......USING CTRL D solved my problem........sorry, but i could not drag the little star anywhere.

Favorites button and add to favorites button has disappeared
I have a yellow star and a yellow star with green arrow but clicking them does not work
any one know how i can get original buttons back?

It's good to know that I am not the only one who thought I was going crazy with this favorites bar thing. How could the bar be better than the button? I'm going to try the CTRL D thing. I want a quick easy solution - FAST.

At work I had someone that was having the same problem so I wrote a little fix.

Let me know what you think

You have to close internet explorer before you run it, otherwise it will not be able to put the icon in the right spot.


Here is a breakdown of what it does:
1. Extracts 3 files to your toolbar links folder
2. changes the order of the icons in the reg making the + icon the first one

I made this for a computer that allows files to be run from the local computer without a warning, I can make it so that the program changes this setting on your computer (no more warning) . I would like to know if anyone would even use this before I do that, so try it out and see if you like it.

I'm sure most of us WANT AND USE the Favorites button in IE8. I dont want to tap the alt button every time to use it in IE9.There has got to be a better way to show the favorites bar permanently if any anyone can help !!
