I was having a conversation with a co-worker the other day about learning about web technologies, specifically ASP .NET. So I put together a quick list of resources for someone who is new to the whole process to be able to learn the basics and experiment with the technologies.

Does anyone else have more suggestions to get someone started? I'm also looking for some good web hosting for someone to set up some ASP test projects and maybe a blog or two. Any suggestions? A Canadian company would be preferrable, but not a deal breaker.

Update: I found this link through Microsoft's Web Developer 2005 Express page, I found a comprehensive list of hosting solutions.

Tools:
Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Books:

Essential Asp.Net 2.0

Essential ASP.NET with Examples in Visual Basic .NET

Programming Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Applications Advanced
