Online Music Services - Pandora and Launch
I've been trying out the new music service Pandora and I'm really liking it (mostly). I like the service, I guess it's the delivery that bugs me. The interface is slick and relatively easy and intuitive to use. The selection of music it served it with only the limited parameters I started it with (Counting Crows) was impressive. Initially. the ratio of songs I liked vs. disliked was something like 5:1, which was acceptable for me. It got better as I voted on what was served up, tuning things more ......

Hurricane Katrina
Here is a great roundup of links dealing with Hurricane Katrina courtesy of Robert. I don't really know what to make of it. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes not to mention the hundreds or potentially thousands dead. People are already debating that global warming is going to increase the number and ferocity of major storms such as these. But it looks like opinions and evidence are running contrary to such theories. The long term view here should not really be what the potential ......

Cookbook Tag
I got tagged a while ago with this meme by Sam from Becks and Posh and I didn't get a chance to write it up yet. Bad food blogger. Well I don't have a huge collection of cookbooks, I tend to work more from memory and inspiration, but at times it's good to have a certain book at hand to refer to. I also find that a cookbook can be a great read when I'm not looking to get into anything technical or don't have the time to read involved fiction or something that takes a good deal of focus. The short ......

Google Talk? Not Yet.

Oh, and as for Google Talk. Well, I won't be cluttering up my machines with another IM/VOIP client quite yet. We use MSN for all the chatting bits and Skype for the non-carpal-tunnel inducing stuff and it works ok for us so far.

I might give it a shot when I have some free cycles I guess...

Checking Out Google Desktop
I (like thousands of others) recently downloaded version 2.0 of the Google Desktop and have begun to play around with it. I wasn't too impressed by the first version but this one is looking much cooler already. My biggest problem is the lack of Canadian cities for the weather module. I can approximate the weather in Vancouver by adding Seattle, no biggie but try finding a proxy for Montreal. Plattsburgh, NY? “No Weather Information“. OK, something a little bigger. Albany? “No Weather ......

Recursion

For anyone (myself included) interested in learning more about recursion and how it all works, Eric Lippert has recently posted a great six part series all about recursion. Here is Part 1 of the series.

Enjoy.

More Gmail Problems
I've been getting a good deal of traffic over on the original Gmail Problems post so here's an update for all the people looking for answers out there. Things have been working fairly well for me over the past week or so but there have been reports of people who could not connect for days. Mostly the issues seem to be transient and trying again in 15 minutes seems to do the trick. There does however seem to be a lack of “official” news from Google. Are there any Google bloggers out there ......

Great Sci-Fi
It's been a while since I've posted. The weather has been so great the past few weeks that we've been out enjoying it all. That and my general foot problems have kind of made me lazy for the past while. Plus work has been really busy as well... For my birthday one of the gifts I got was the Firefly Complete Series set. We just finished watching the last episode last night. What an awesome series. We had seen a few episodes when it was originally aired but this filled in all the gaps. It's too bad ......
