I'm so glad that I don't 'do' commercial anymore!
Recently, the blogs I've been stumbling across are mostly full of the latest/greatest current-thing (c/w syntax and code-snippets). Or, they're full of the he said, but he then said! kinda stuff.
Now, I've nothing against any of this per se, but it takes me back to a time when I too had to keep up-to-date with all the politics; and the latest incarnation of essentially the same thing – for example, getting thing-1 to talk to thing-2 (apologies to Dr. Seuss)
Of course, it's never long before it's discovered that thing-1 can talk to thing-2 using something else – something new – which, in turn, becomes the latest and greatest thing (maybe this would be a good way to explain stuff like loops – or– at a stretch, recursion!)
These days I find myself in a totally commercial free zone – and I just love it: despite, every so often, being asked to get all commercial again! Still, I resist (hey, money isn't everything you know)! No, academia is where my heart is – and I just love working on stuff that has no (immediate) commercial relevance. I love being theoretical again – theory is subtle, slippery, and, most always, very surprising - when you get right into the depths of it all that is … it also gets one thinking about other stuff: stuff that I never had time for before (shame on me).
I consider myself to be very lucky – very lucky indeed – as it's nice, at last, to 'break' free from that incessant loop.
Ok, confession over!
