Sql Compare

For all you Sql Server junkies..

I just wanna take a second to say how great Red Gate's Sql Compare is. At work I'm in the process of creating a conversion process from one product version to another. Without Sql Compare I don't know what I would do. I used their 2.x version last year and just got the brand new 3.1 vesion. It compares our databases at work in less than a minute, and they have over 200 tables, probably 500+ objects all together. The old version would take like 5 minutes.

For anyone out their working with Sql Server, Sql Compare is a must have.

Have you tried SQL Data Compare though.. It seems to use old snapshots of databases.. seems like SQL Data Compare isn't as mature.

There are a bunch of products out there which are all pretty good for database comparison. Me, I like SQL Delta, it does both data and structure compare in one and its cheaper than Redgate. Adept do an ok product and Apex, well ... you be the judge...

ApexSQL blows red-gate out of the water. to automate red-gate you need to pay $800 for an "SDK" and roll your own app - no thanks. ApexSQL Diff offers command line interface at no extra price.

The fact that Red-Gate beats it's own abysmal performance isn't really a big selling point to give them more money.

If you don't like ApexSQL try AdeptSQL another product better and cheaper than red-gate.

You may want to see Kentico Compare SQL - it's very fast and costs only $49!
