Within the past few months, I repaved my machines, removing old versions of win98 and WinME, installing fresh copies of WinXP. I installed Windows XP SP2 on my machines and was pleased to find that all installations went without a hitch. I did not play with any of the Release Candidate bits, so I was underwhelmed by the much vaunted Security Center. I expected it to appear on my Start menu. Nope. I looked at the Start menu properties for a customization to make it appear. Nope. I finally found it buried amongst all the other entries in the Control Panel.
I thought there would be more customization options available, but only the regular Internet Options and Automatic Updates Control Panel applets were linked to the dialog. That seemed a disappointment.
The Windows Firewall defaulted to my domain settings (which I had never set) of “off.” I think I'll leave it that way and just reinstall Zone Alarm Pro.
At this moment, Hurricane Charley is approaching. It will pass over Orlando within the next 4-5 hours. The eye will probably pass directly over the Disney property and pass 20-30 miles to the west of our house. We anticipate 80-100 mph winds during that period. Hopefully, all the adventure will be over by midnight. Happy Hurricane!
