Brian Hitney from Microsoft will be presenting on using ASP.NET Model-View-Controller Framework. In this talk, we'll look at the new Model-View-Controller (or MVC) framework coming in ASP.NET. We'll discuss some topics like REST, and we'll go over how MVC works (such as URL routing and controllers). We'll also talk about why and in what situations the MVC framework might be useful over traditional ASP.NET Webforms development.

The ASP.NET MVC framework enables easy implementation of the model-view-controller (MVC) pattern for web applications. This pattern allows separation of applications into loosely coupled, pluggable components for application design, processing logic, and display. This allows easy testing of web applications, allows components to be plugged and swapped, and greater code maintainability.

This month’s meeting will start off with Pizza and then break into "Creating Custom Templatable Controls in Silverlight".

Creating reusable controls is an important aspect of productive software development. When you can supplement this reusability with customizability, you have the power to rapidly deliver seamless and compelling user experiences in your products. Silverlight offers both of these through the use of custom templatable controls. In this presentation, we will take a short journey through the process of building a custom control using Silverlight.

Windows Mobile slide deck and demo code posted

Topic 1

We’re going to explore Windows Mobile development a little deeper with demonstrations and code starting with a “Hello World” using SMS. From there we’ll learn how to take back control of our mobile phones using the State and Notifications Broker to intercept and process incoming phone calls. Finally we’ll take a peek at using the GPS API and how to use it.

Topic 2

There are several community events in the works for the coming months and we want you to have a part in planning them. These events include the Community-Launch, DotNet University and Code Camp.

GC.NUG Extending it's presence online

Thanks to the good folks at Culminis and Microsoft I plan to start hosting some GC.NUG presentations on LiveMeeting in the somewhat near future...though I'm still going over the logistics of time and such.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is doing this so I can learn any potential pitfalls to avoid :)

GCNUG Meeting re-cap

A huge thanks to Benefit Focus for providing us with an awesome meeting facility and to TEKSystems for providing the food! We had a really awesome presentation given by Karl Shifflett on one of the projects he's been developing for a few months now called Mole.

Karl introduced me to Mole a few months ago via e-mail and chat on Community-Credit's discussion forums and I've been a fan since. I was floored that he accepted my invitation to come down to Charleston (a nice 3 hour drive from Charlotte) and speak at our user group. I think the best part about Karl's presentation is that he's *really* into what he's talking about...as he mentioned he could easily go on for hours but I learned so much more about Mole listening to him talk about it last night than I had watching his video's on it previously...so if you have a chance to catch Karl live at a user group, code camp or such, be sure to and get a much more in depth look at what Mole does.

We had some neat prizes to give away. Ted Atchley (Ted - you need a blog) walked away with a full version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional and many others walked away with books. A special thanks to Microsoft for providing Visual Studio and to Microsoft Press, Addison-Wesley, and Apress, for providing the books.
