Over the last few days I have been plagued with a view of GMail that does not make for a “Google" experience of UX.  All my buttons are vertical instead of horizontal!  Features still work, but it is quite annoying.  I am wondering if any one else is going through it or if it is just me.

<—Click the image to see what it looks like.  My resolution is 1920x1200 on both displays.

Weird. I am on Win7 w\IE8 and no issues here. I am in Gmail all the time. Have you tried a theme or different theme to see if it sets things right?

I've had exactly the same experience with vertical buttons since I "upgraded" to IE8 yesterday. Hope they fix it soon...

I'm having major problems with gmail. Glad to see it is not just me, thought I was having a brain freeze or something. I am still not able to access my account. Get an error message, URL to long. I have had this problems since 3/26 and now into today 3/27.

I'm glad to see that it's not just me that gets that layout. Things were working fine initially after I switched to IE8, but then something happened. I don't think it was with a particular machine on my end, but something on the GMail app server, since it affects my access on several machines.

I had the problem with IE7 and upgraded to 8 hoping that it would go away... Also when I browse to yahoo.com I receive a message that states I'm not using a supported browser... And that was when I was on IE7. Somethings hosed.

Just upgraded to IE8 on Vista (32bit) and I've the same issue. Prior to the upgrade, IE7 displayed it fine.

OK - Solved!
I solved it by changing the theme (to any theme), then change back to the original theme.
If you're the issue is with Google Apps - (managed domain - where themes are not available) change to a different language - and then switch back to English (Settings-> Language).

I don't understand why Google hasn't fixed this - it has been a problem since the IE8 betas and IE8 has been final for some time now.

"Use a real browser" (firefox/chrome/etc) is not an acceptable answer - IE is the dominant browser in the marketplace and web developers need to support it. Even if the company they work for makes it's own browser.

Found issue... At least on my client. I tried to update as John stated and when I went to windows update it said my PC was a Mac... Hmmm. Well when all else fails turn off AntiVirus... Boom all issues solved. Windows update, yahoo.com, and gmail buttons. Using Symantec Endpoint Protection. More specifically the issue seems to be the Network Protection software. Their client firewall. Turn off all works. Turn on all fails. Now it's time to bug Symantec.
Thanks All.

Did you enable "Compatability" mode? Try turning it off, either google or MS have fixed this :) But now it does not work properly in Comapatability mode...

Go to Tools> Compatibility View Settings, then add google.com and/or gmail.com on the list.

Refresh gmail and voila!

Using I.E. 8 my Gmail screen is all garbled up. Things are not in the places that I.E. 6 had. Anyone know the status of the fix for this?

when I try to log in with my Gmail account, for example on myspace, the IE8 types "...@mail" with NO "g". I have to type TWO "g" keys to have just ONE on screen and so I can log in...

You will find a icon named 'gmail view' bottom of the gmail webpage.click 'basic html'. once you are in html view switch back to 'standard view',the buttons will move horizontal now.
