I have found a great new hobby, disc golf.  Here are my Top 5 Reasons why more geeks should start playing:

  • Disc are only $10-$15 and can be found at your local sporting goods stores or Disc Golf Online Stores.
  • Courses are FREE!!!  You just walk on and start playing
  • Shorter courses, like Executive Golf Courses, can be found offering a great lunch break.
  • Wow, what a workout!  (hint hint D'Arcy)  I am in pain from playing yesterday.
  • Great sport that everyone on your team can enjoy.

Maybe if we can start a new culture of geeks playing disc golf, we will launch a blog site for disc golfers.  I think Geekdom has a need for an official sport and paper football, airzooking, or WoW won't get us the exercise needed to continue ruling the world with lines of code.  That is a catchy blog title, Ruling the World with Lines of Code, feel free to take it.

Here are a couple photos of a disc golf course we played yesterday:

Does anyone else play this sport?

Yes, disc golf rocks! We play in Wichita alot, and it is something that we can do all year 'round. And everyone, even up north, has an Ice Bowl during the coldest part of winter.
The best courses I have played at are in Kansas City (Water Works, Rosedale down under), Aspen Colorado (in summer on the mountain ski courses), and San Diego (which is an immaculate course that is setup like a real golf course with great landscaping).
The best part is that soon you will be obsessing/geeking out on disc types, which all "fly" differently and are analogous to ball golf clubs, and how they will help your throw.

So you've given up on the real man's game of golf - actual, pure, beautiful golf? Guess the duck hook and slice monsters finally got to you. ;) Give me a call when you're ready to come back to the world of "golf golf". :P

The geeks here in my neck of the woods (Cincinnati, OH) play Ultimate Frisbee which I prefer to Disc Golf. It is much more physical and you have to run! It also requires at least 8 geeks to be fun. But a lot of fun it is!

Welcome to the sport, Cincinnati Oh has some of the best cources hands down. Mt Airy,Woodland, Idelwild, Banklick. They offer all types of hazards, and a $ 5.00 anual park fee is the only green fee I'll ever pay again. I'm playing the Ice Bowl Jan 14 at Mt.Airy.

I used to play disc golf with some friends of mine, and I really enjoyed it. Sadly, in the place where I live there isn't definitely much interest in this sport, that's why it's not easy for me to find people to play it with.

Ball Golf blows!!! It's for snooty fucks, real golf, is Disc Golf, it's affordable, and I have played both, I can tell you that Disc golf is wayyy more fun. Not to mention, good luck smoking a jibber out on a ball golf coarse....
