Replacing Visual Source Safe vs. Vault

VSS 6.0c is the most current version of source safe. I have discovered this has very limited functionalty and also has some limitations that have caused me some troubles. A product I have started using the replace vss is Vault. Sourcegear valut is a source control software the intergrates into Visual studio and will allow for automated builds.

You won't be sorry. A very fine piece of software. It is also very stable in VS2005b2 in its current build.

There's actually a VSS 6.0d, which causes major headaches. If you use c, then you have to use VS 2002 (the .NET 1.0 framework). d works with VS 2003 (.NET 1.1), and if you try to interop the two, you'll corrupt your database all the time.

Moving to Vault is really the best option right now. You can import VSS databases as needed, and it's SQL-based.

By the way, automating builds and VS.NET integration (if you have the right version of VSS) works just fine with VSS. The VSS support in CC.NET is actually better than the Vault support at this time - which is something that I think we should change - write our own NantContrib tasks for all the functionality we want in Vault.

I download Visual Source Safe 2005 iso image. and whenever I hit the setup file I recieve this error:
---------------------------
setup.exe - Bad Image
---------------------------
The application or DLL D:\vsbasereqs.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Does anybody know how to burn the ISO image in order to work?
