Pluck the news aggregator

Yeah, so I lured you here with promises of indiscretion.  I tried out a new aggregator named Pluck and I have been using it for about a week now and I can't really sing it's praises.  The problems I have encountered are:

  1. It seems to slow my entire machine down.
  2. It doesn't update me when there are new comments.
  3. There seems to be a few visual bugs.  Sometimes, when I start Pluck (it runs in your browser; novel idea, eh?), it shows the feeds I am subscribed to but when I want to look at the contents of those feeds, it doesn't show me anything.  This could be a “feature“ that is hiding an error with the feed.  If there is an error, I want to know about it.
  4. The pupose of using the browser as the interface seems to be subscription-based clicking.  If you click on an rss feed, it automatically adds it to your subscriptions.  This is bad for two reasons: 1) I may not WANT to subscribe to this feed. 2) It doesn't work.  When I want to subscribe to a feed, I usually have to click the link two or three times.
  5. I haven't been able to figure out how to import/export my feed list.

If you have used Pluck successfully, please let me know.  Maybe I am just not doing it right!  Until then, I can't recommend the product to anyone.  I think I will give it a few more days and then

# re: Pluck the news aggregator

Gravatar hey, to import OPML files just drag and drop the file into the pluck toolbar. Not too intuitive huh? I also notice that it's very slow, like there's one thread for the gui and the internet function (if internet slows than the gui lockups ala exchange).

try sharpreader... I'm also in the market for a new rss aggregator but currently use sharpreader semihappily. 6/28/2004 12:02 PM | david
