MCMS 101 - How to point your Local Site Manager to another Environment ....

One of the simple but very handy feature is to be able to have shortcuts on your desktop that can invoke site Manager that is pointing to Development, Content, Stagging and Production Environment.

Here are the Steps to accomplish that:

  (i) From Windows Start Menu navigate too - All Program - Microsoft Content Management Server - Site Manager..
(ii) Right Click on Site Manager and Select Send To - Desktop(Create Shortcut)
(iii) Create as many shorts as the MCMS Environments you have i.e you should have 4 short cuts for Development, Content, Stagging and Production if you have four separate MCMS Server and Databases.
(iv) Rename the Short Cuts to Development SiteManager, Content SiteManager etc .....
   (v) Right Click on the Short cut on the Desktop and Click on Properties.
(vi) in the Target field locate the http://localhost and replace localhost with the server name of the desired environment for the currently select shortcut.
If for example I want to point this short cut to Content Server and it is called CNTServer I will replace localhost with CNTServer.
(vii) Click OK and when you invoke Site Manager yo will be viewing the Content Environment.
