iPod Shuffle + iTunes 7.0.2 + Windows XP Professional x64 = Frustration

I have my iPod Shuffle since yesterday and I still didn't manage to upload any song to it using iTunes v7.0.2 on Windows XP Professional x64. The problems started when I first connected the device and started iTunes. iTunes detected that the iPod Shuffle was running software version 1.0 but there was recent version of the software that contains several bugfixes so I upgraded the software. After 45 minutes or maybe longer the update got interrupted because the device was no longer attached (?)....

Nero is finally ready for Windows Vista

The biggest disadvantage of new operating systems is the lack of working software or at least designed to work on the new platform. One software I was missing for Vista was a decent CD/DVD burning tool, something like Nero. Months ago the team behind Nero already announced that they were working on a patch to make Nero 7 compatible with Windows Vista. Every month they release an update and the latest update that will upgrade your version of Nero 7 to version 5.7.5.0 is that update a lot of people...

Microsoft vs DRM hackers

Some hackers created a proggie to remove the DRM from audio files called FairUse4WM. Microsoft said that they have designed the IBX, which is the individualized blackbox component to DRM protect audio files, in such a way that allows Microsoft to easily update the component once hacked. So as promised it took Microsoft only 3 days to update the IBX and FairUse4WM was neutralized. It took the hackers another couple of days to work around this new IBX and release FairUse4WM v1.2. In Belgium we have...

VMware Workstation v5.5 + Windows Vista RC1 anyone?

Has anyone tried and succeeded in installing Windows Vista RC1 in VMware Workstation v5.5? I have tried several different combinations, choosing custom types, 384MB, 512MB, 1024MB RAM and so on but for some reason the installation stops at the screen with the progress bar on the bottom and the caption "Windows is loading files...": Sure I could just switch to Virtual PC or another virtualization software but if you have a VMware Workstation license you want this to work too in VMware Workstation...

No HD-DVD or BluRay support in Windows Vista 32-bit!

According to an article on BetaNews you will never ever be able to play HD-DVD or BluRay movies on a Windows Vista 32-bit edition. The reason is simple: in the 32-bit editions of Vista it is possible to install unsigned drivers at the Kernel level and this could allow a smart developer to create a workaround to copy these protected movies. In the 64-bit edition of Vista every driver has to be signed. This is imho a stupid move of Microsoft because I estimate that it will take less than 2 weeks after...
