Microsoft vs DRM hackers

Some hackers created a proggie to remove the DRM from audio files called FairUse4WM. Microsoft said that they have designed the IBX, which is the individualized blackbox component to DRM protect audio files, in such a way that allows Microsoft to easily update the component once hacked. So as promised it took Microsoft only 3 days to update the IBX and FairUse4WM was neutralized. It took the hackers another couple of days to work around this new IBX and release FairUse4WM v1.2.

In Belgium we have a saying: "Dweilen met de kraan open".

# re: Microsoft vs DRM hackers

Gravatar DRM has hurt the industry in many ways. I will name them from what other people will or won't do anymore because of DRM. Mp3 player sales could be much higher;Users would use Windows Media player more; There would be way less troublesome problems with the WMP's & versions; Way less confusion with player settings; More online music purchase. Less PC problems in general because some users think other issues are corrupt and actually make matters worse with their PC performance period.; All the honest users suffer for this DRM: All the troubleshooting pages is bible thick, which is proof that DRM issues are not that simple for users to correct their settings. When is Microsoft gonna get the message? There are users doing all the wrong things to fixing their problem with audio, video or both because of DRM. They will download other players with less confusion.Microsoft is good at putting out disclaimers,I wonder why? They blame the user for their mistakes. I know of a major computer manufacturer that allows it's tech help support to direct pc users to download another company's media player.to play music files. 11/30/2008 3:04 AM | Jamison
