Microsoft WPC–Day 2 Con’t…

Wednesday, July 13, 2011 8:53 PM

A combination of lack-of-wifi, long bus rides, and no time to spare is getting me behind in my blog posts for WPC. Below is what happened the afternoon on Day 2 (Monday). I have lots more to post from yesterday and today, hopefully I get around to it tonight. Anyway, about Day 2…

We were supposed to meet with some members of the Microsoft Digital Marketing team, but they no-showed (thanks guy! :\ ). That was ok though, as the wi-fi in the one-on-one meeting area was *way* better than the rest of the LACC, so I hung out there for a bit. I was going to take in a SharePoint session, but it moved and by the time I got there it was already full (they are *really* strict about fire codes here). So I went to a session on “the future of social media” or something like that. It really wasn’t though, instead it was a session on some Microsoft Fusion Lab projects…but they were *very* kewl.

The first one was Project Montage. Montage lets you create web pages by aggregating various information sources. I’m planning on putting one together for Prairie Developer Conference, should be a great way to quickly see what’s being reported about it online. (Note: Unfortunately, there’s a 404 when you click the “try it” link on the page…not sure what’s up with that)

The second was Company Crowd. Same sort of aggregation-type page, but with a Wiki-style editing ability for everyone. The focus is also around companies, so this isn’t meant for personal sites, fan sites, etc. Not 100% sold on this one, but I am curious. Might try a demo site just to see.
