There's a new search engine in town, headed up by a former Google employee who apparently was the brainchild behind the current incarnation of the world's best used search engine. (http://money.cnn.com/2008/07/28/technology/cuil.ap/index.htm?cnn=yes)
Cuil (pronounced Cool) launched today, and at first glance...its as flakey as Twitter!
It's also not as reliable as Google, even though that CNN Money article I mention above says that its supposed to have three times the web index of Google. I did some vanity checks to see what came up.
Searching D'Arcy Lussier produced a few different results, with only one being from my blog. Ok, that's somewhat passible.
Searching for Chris Williams produced NO RESULTS! FAIL!
Searching for Chris Williams again produced over 126000 results...of which NONE of the initial results were to his blog. EPIC FAIL!
So obviously there's still some tweaking to do, and I'm not sure that we really need another search engine unless it can live up to its claim to be better than Google. Something to keep an eye on and see where it leads.
