Inspiration for the "Others"

Tuesday, January 2, 2007 6:11 AM

Friends, this time of year can be extremely difficult for many of us. As the clock continues to move ahead, and the new year approaches, many of us will feel an emptiness...a sadness...possibly even anger and angst. Why are we different? What is it about us that makes us un-worthy of the love and affection poured out to others?

Yes, I'm talking to you my brethren, the ones that DIDN'T GET AN F'N MVP STATUS AWARDED THIS YEAR. I know it's tough right now with so many gloating about the joy of reading their email and seeing the text-of-joy staring back at them...I'm sure many of us looked to realize we only had an invitiation from some African prince wanting to deposit money in our bank, or a deal on rolex watches, or some other spam. No, we didn't receive the golden ticket to invite us to Bill Gates chocolate factory. But take heart, and remember these things:

1. You're special even without an MVP attached to your name. You still do amazing things for your company, and you're still important to the community.

2. You're lucky that you don't have the added stress of being an MVP! Who wants to get free stuff at the Microsoft store, or get whisked away to places for MVP summits?! That's just more time taken away from your family and friends.

3. Sometimes there's just no MVP category for the things you do. And besides, can you really put an "MVP" status on something so paramount such as "Being 100% Billable" or maybe "Caring too much for your company", or how about "Making coffee every morning at the office and making it PERFECTLY"? Yes, you have rewards stored up that are greater than anything an MVP label could muster.

So my brethren, my fellow outcasts, don't be saddended by the gloating some do...like this guy...or this guy...or this guy...or Mr. MVPness...but instead be happy and glad knowing that we do matter both in the world and on this blog forum.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take my frustrations out on a certain MVP in my office...

D

I was going to nominate D'Arcy for "GWB MVP in the area of Brightens my Day" but I'm not sure you can hold two GWB MVP awards at once...

What are the rules on that exactly Jeff? 1/2/2007 2:31 PM | George

one day, you too will be a REAL boy...

(FWIW, I nominated you but the committee came back to me and said you were TOO awesome and that you would make the rest of us look bad.) 1/2/2007 4:12 PM | B F'n M
