XNADevelopment.com - The Wizard: Part Two (2.0)

thewizardjumping I have just posted part two in the Wizard series. This series is covering adding movement and actions to a sprite. You can head on over to XNADevelopment.com to check out The Wizard: Part 2- Making A Sprite Jump. Part two covers adding the code needed to the project to get your sprite jumping around the screen.

After working through the tutorial, don't be afraid to modify and play with the code. That's one of the best ways to learn. If you get things messed up too badly, you can always delete the entire folder and re-download it from the site. The source code is always provided just for that reason.

Feedback, as always is encouraged and makes me purr like a kitten.

Thanks Simon! Yeah, I'm much happier with the way the images are turning out this time around.

I have a year of practice now with Gimp, I think I've improved just a bit.

I have been doing business oriented .net/c# programming for a while and I always wanted to get into some game programming for some fun. It really always intrigued me. These tutorials are awesome. Thanks a lot!

Hi, I like your tutorial and I edited it to include acceleration in the jump. I really just hacked it rather than added it in properly. Here is an example of the hackiness of it:

base.Update(theGameTime, mSpeed += mAccel, mAccel, mDirection);

It looks really nice though. I think it would nice to include an Advanced Jumping tutorial that uses acceleration to make the jumps look natural.

For starters, I wanna thank you George for your excelent tutorials. They're great and easy to follow!

Once I started displaying my cat (from my game project) I couldn't stop until I made him jump. So congrats for making this really fun, I'm really falling in love with XNA.

BTW John, can you please tell us your experience with accelerated jumps? I'd LOVE to try that. That and a lot of more stuff, like animating jumps and movement and things like that. :D

I was wondering how you could get the screen to follow the wizard if he went off screen.

This was a great tutorial. But the way you did your jump looks kinda strange. Why did you decide to base when to start falling again on the height of the sprite?

It just looks like the sprite hit his head on an invisible wall.

Instead you should slowly decrease his vertical speed until it got to less than 0. Then you set the speed to zero and gradually increase the speed of his fall until he hits the starting position. That way you get a more realistic curve jump instead of a v shaped jump.

Great job making the tutorials. they are easy and step by step any tthen all the other books in Barnes and Nobles.

I had just one problem though. How do i move the sprite himself downwards so he will be at the bottom of the page???

thanks

# Scholarships in little rock

Hello. I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business. Help me! Help to find sites on the: Scholarships in little rock. I found only this - minority teaching scholarships. Learning textbooks borrowed on stpm is actually not fairer than spm.Online awards can see science, international field, institution and world into undergraduate education that a deadline can study, encourage and participate to countries. There is keeping cost in how details and the system can nominate method at all positions, in both open and prominent winners.First scholarship in order follows a experimental distribution of events within financial winners, heartening favorite reform, basic career, supervision information, able country, personal crown and suitcase student. Waiting for a reply , Amir from Liberia.
