Tris Hussey (I checked this time, and it IS Tris) has some thoughts about RSS Readers. I agree with her that we need a new metaphor, and that none of the current approaches is really the “best”. However, for me, at the moment, it’s NewsGator, as I’ve mentioned before. If I can’t read your blog in Outlook, I’m not going to read it. There are other options than NewsGator for this now, although I don’t remember specifics. Outlook for Office 12 will have this functionality built-in, so I’ll give that a try when I get the beta and let you know.
Until something that’s really new and better comes along, Outlook integration is a requirement for me.
UPDATE: One of the NewsGator competitors (in the Outlook-based RSS Aggregator arena) is BlogBot, which yesterday announced that they were going Open Source. I haven't tried it, but it looks pretty nice.
UPDATE: I owe apologies to both Tris Hussey and Arieanna Foley. First, for calling Tris a woman. A lot of the Qumana blog posts have a picture of a woman on them. I mistakenly assumed that was done deliberately by Tris. My apologies. And I owe an apology to Arieanna for crediting this post to Tris in the first place. However, if Arieanna is going to post on Tris' blog, then I refuse to take total blame for this mistake. Apologies to you both.
