I finally saw Star Wars: Episode III - and all you critics are mistaken
Ok, so I’m a bit late on this. I’ll admit, it’s been out for 10 days and I finally saw it – not exactly quick to jump on this one. However, I’m using the excuse that I was invited to the Microsoft pre-screening in Chicago, but I was out in Redmond at the time. Nonetheless, I’ve seen it now (just today) and I believe I can help clarify some of the mistaken posts about this. In particular, my friend the optionsScalper has it wrong – at least here, and maybe ......

Inaugural WI Windows Users Group meeting tonight
The WI Microsoft community continues to grow and impress even the most skeptical of people. Tonight (Tuesday, May 24) we held the first WI Windows Users Group meeting. It turned out to be a great event in spite of some flaws in marketing execution. The new web site we built threw an unexpected curve ball in our invitations and event communications, but the issue is resolved thanks to some hard working WI .NET Users Group people. Basically nobody received the invitations. However, we still had over ......

VS2005, then "Orcas", then "Hawaii"
Well, I just heard today while out in Redmond that the next version of Visual Studio after Orcas is going to be code-named “Hawaii”. Apparently they’re going with an island theme for the next few versions. As far as I know, this is public knowledge, but it was the first time I heard about it, so I thought I’d post on it. This also led me to think about something interesting. Think about what it must be like for members of the VS team or ASP.NET team, or other Microsoft product ......

2Go Services...another cool Redmond feature
I popped open the Redmond phonebook tonight to see if I could find somewhere to deliver some food to my hotel room. After calling one Chinese restaurant that promised free delivery (only to find that I was somehow outside of their delivery area – yet only a few miles away) I found a company listing called Delivery2Go Services. It’s a food delivery service that works with 20 area restaurants to do delivery for a fee. I could get Taco Bell delivered if I so chose. Now think how handy that ......

I got to meet Scoble Today
I’m out here in Redmond still and I’m still blown away by everything. Today at the Imagine Cup was just some introductory stuff for the students. Kevin Briody has done a great job in organizing this event and things are going well. Late this morning, we had Robert Scoble stop by and he shot some video for Channel 9. I had the opportunity to meet him and get my picture taken with him. He’s very laid back and a cool guy. www.briantinkler.net/scoble... ......

First impressions from Redmond
Well, today began my first visit to Redmond and Microsoft HQ. I was pretty excited to see how sunny it was, how green everything was (man, they have trees everywhere here), and of course to see what it looks like to be in pro-Microsoft territory. Something happens to a city when you cram 35,000 Microsoft employees into 60 or so buildings. It was a pretty awesome experience. I hooked up with a friend on the C# team once I got settled into my hotel. Free wireless access – expected, but still ......

WMA, MP3 and my struggle to do the right thing...any ideas?
As I’ve mentioned on my blog before, I recently got a new car. One of my favorite features is the MP3 player capability. I’ve really enjoyed being able to burn CD-R’s and throw them into the changer and listen to 100+ songs on a single disc, or very often a ton of personal development material. So, here’s my dilemma. I used to (in a past life years ago, I swear!) “borrow” music and other files from various sources. It started with the original Napster, then migrated ......

Really cool stuff...I'm joining INETA UG Relations as Midwest liaison
I got an e-mail invitation last week from Chris Wallace, the chairman of the INETA User Group Relations Committee, asking me to become the new Midwest UG liaison. That means I’ll be working with the INETA sanctioned user groups in WI, IN, and IL to help them achieve their goals. I’m very excited about this new position and look forward to working with all the UG leaders in these states. I know many of them and look forward to getting to know the others. ......

\sum_{m=3}^{n/2} \frac{1}{\ln m} {1 \over \ln (n-m)} \approx \frac{n}{2 \ln^2 n}
Ever heard of Goldbach’s conjecture? Did you recognize the heuristic justification in the subject line of this post? If so, damn you’re smart. The point of this post is to express the sheer “cool factor” I feel nearly every day in interacting with the people I do. As a business development guy (i.e., sales, marketing, partnerships, etc.), I’m impressed by the uncanny knowledge of the people I’m lucky enough to talk with. I guess that’s just a benefit of being ......

My New Ride...

1 year anniversary with my wife
Whew, time is flying fast lately. These past couple of weeks have been blurry-fast. The past year has gone fast too, as evidenced by the celebration of my 1 year anniversary with my wife, Belinda. May 4th is our anniversary. We went out for a steak dinner at our favorite local place in Madison. I had roses waiting for her when she came home, and she got me an indoor golf putting practice green. This Friday night, we continued our celebration, as we went to La Crosse, WI with my brother and his girlfriend. ......
