The best kind of geek toy
I've been a gadget junkie for quite a few years now and last night I found a SmartPhone with the greatest feature ever, it was free. While attending the .Net Mobility Road Show event last night in Overland Park, my name was picked first in the prize drawing and I won a Voq Professional Phone. This SmartPhone has a pretty cool fold out key board built into it. The phone recognizes when you open the keyboard and opens up a special application to immediately search for contacts or send an SMS message. ......

Thank you, K.C. Royals
As everyone knows by now, the Red Sox finally did it. As a transplanted member of the Red Sox nation, living in Kansas City, I want to thank the Royals management. In the previous two years, I had a partial season ticket (20 some odd games) to the Royals. Two years ago, the Royals were terrible (almost as bad as this year). Then last year they had a good year. This prompted the management to hike the ticket prices by over 30%. This led me to purchase the MLB extra innings cable tv package rather ......

Welcome to the family

Welcome to William Aidan, son of my brother Steve, born Oct. 19th at 4:53 am. Several of the hospital staff believe they heard the muffled words “Yankees Suck!” at the time of the delivery, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Don't kill your design efforts
Kim Goodwin of Cooper  gives some great advice in her new article, “Ten Ways to Kill Design”. While this article is about successfully implementing interaction design in your company, the advice applies equally well to any new initiative or culture change you may want to implement in your company.

Evil Empire Spanked
Last night the Red Sox won the ALCS in one, if not the, best playoff series ever. One more step to go, tonight's final in the National League should be a good one. I have said from the beginning that we didn't need A-Rod, and he showed he belongs with the Empire with his cheating glove swatting and then lying about it.

Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004
This in not advice (etc, etc.), just my notes on the tax bill. There are other provisions related to this bill that I did not include here. You can download a copy of a more complete summary from the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants. The President signed the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004 on October 4th, 2004. Provisions of the act that apply to individuals include: A single definition of a child. Previously, there were several definitions of a qualifying child, depending upon ......

Tom Peters on managing lunch
I'm a big Tom Peters fan. He's one of those guys that when I read his stuff I think, “ya, that's what I think too, I wish I could have said it as well”. Today Tom has a great blog entry about taking advantage of your lunch opportunities.

Google SMS
Learned about Google's new SMS service via Scott Hanselman's blog. This service allows you to do things like search Google using your phone by sending a text message. The results will be sent back to you as one or more text messages. I haven't been a big "texter" but this seems like it could be a pretty useful service. I experienced very acceptable response times when playing around with it this afternoon. For instance, I'm getting pretty thirsty and need to know where to find some beer in my neighborhood. ......

Been a slacker
Well, it looks like I've been slacking off on my blogging. I'm not sure too many people (if anyone) read this yet so maybe it's not a big deal. Being a re-located Red Sox fan, I have been able to catch quite a number of games this year, so with the play-offs going on I have been watching more t.v. than I should. Actually, I got the baseball package on cable this year, so I have seen almost every Red Sox game this year. I have also been able to see the Patriots a couple of times already (I didn't ......
