The new CD is burning up in my stereo.  It is pretty hot out here in the great northwest.  The sound is something molded out of Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Pixies, and something much bouncier.  Title: Good News for People Who Love Bads News.  I like that too, so I am a fan.

gnfpwlbn is a good cd but float on got annoying about the 200th time. if you say you are a 'real' modest mouse fans can you name any of there other cds, such as moon and antarctica, lonsome crowded west, building nothing out of something, everywhere and his nast parler tricks, this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, the fruit that ate itlself, sad sappy sucker, whenever you see fit, interstate 8, and isaacs (lead singer) side project ugly casanovas cd sharpon your teeth, before you go saying your a 'real fan' find something other than there only mainstream album and experiance there great albums.

You must remember I simply said I am a fan! And you should be happy more people are finding out about the band. I know sometimes long time fans hate it when their fav band goes mainstream but....that is life.

I just found this band about a month ago.

Never heard of them before, except for Float On, but never paid close enough attention.

In 30 days I got every album and love MoonandAntarcitca, which is like a Sgt Peppers album too me, phenomonal.

Yeah, it kind of sucks that a band you loved is now going mainstream, I know how you feel. But when you find a band that is really good, you want everyone to know about it.

And I am surprised how few people know of this band.

You want to hear real music? Forget the moon & antarctica (although phenomenal) and gnfpwlbs (which is beaten to death), there best album is "this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about" or try their EP Interstate 8 (w/ their best song EVER!!!!, EDIT THE SAD PARTS). DO IT. WHY? CUZ I SAID SO!!!).

ALRIGHT, i'm not sure if this is old or what but the fact is Good news isn't that bad of a cd, and Jason just because you know everything about em doesn't mean your suddenly cool. I know and love the mouse...an i promise you that the next mouse cd will not sound like good news, see cause weikel begin to drum for them when jeramiah green left, and that crushed the sound. Plus they signed on to epic, that porbably wasn't too smooth, but i would garuntee the next mouse cd sounds like m&a...atleast this fan hopes so

I'd like to start out by saying that Modest Mouse is probaly one of the best indie bands to ever form and they're one of my personal favorites (even though I'm not a life long fan). Anyways, I do agree that after losing Jeramiah their sound did change drastically. And even though it can't compare to their earlier recordings (Lonesome Crowded West, This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, Moon & Antarctica, Buliding Something Out of Nothing, ect.) 'Good News' is still a great album and anybody who says "Float On" sucks can bite me. I do hope their current drummer either gets better or they ditch him for a better one so they can go back to more of their old sound... that is unless Epic forces them to continue with their more 'mainstream' sound.

who the hell cares if they go mainstream or not. why bitch about float on.i love modest mouse. why can't we just love them, and be thankful we were all bleesed enough to be touched by thier music. you people need lives. i haven't been touched like this by music since nirvana and the rolling stones. i'm glad thier mainstream now, if they weren't, living in my tiny ass town, i may have never heard them before. and i may have never been able to watch them in radio city music hall. that was probably one of my most cherished nights.and now they are up there as something i lean to when i'm hurting.and yeah if you guys don't know about ugly cassanova i'd buy that , you'll love that too. she shaw, she shaw.

Modest Mouse has been my favorite band for the past five plus years - absolute favorite album is 'this is a long drive...' but I pretty much will listen to any of them. I will say their last album, uh, didn't 'do it for me' and hope (selfishly) that the next one is more to my liking. Although I love Float On and their video for it.

I have no problem with my favorite band going mainstream - I didn't discover them, wasn't their first fan, and I think good music should be shared with everyone.

As for someone stating Modest Mouse is the 'worst band ever' - I'm all for having your own opinion, but not exaggerating. Seriously...are they worse than Ace of Base? Worse than Everclear? Worse than Chumbawumba, Scorpion, Taking Back Sunday, The Rolling Stones, Cold, Limpbiskit, the Dave Matthews Band, Everything But The Girl, Garbage, No Doubt...I could go on but seriously. If you don't like them, that's fine and understandable. But they are not the worst band 'ever'...such an exaggeration.

i guess id say i became a fan, after float on was on t.v. , but modest mouse is my favorite band, they have better things to talk about the smack'n bitches and pop'n caps, trailor trash and polar opposites, and pretty much the whole c.d. of building nothing out of something, i listen to all day at work, they really think outside the box

If you want to know how they got their name and all other fun facts about the mouse, you should check out their section on wikipedia.com. Also, I went and saw holopaw (containing a member of ugly casanova) this past fall and I was told personally that if there is to be a new uc album, then the fate pretty much rests on the state of isaac and what his plans are in the future. last note: I read a blip on the web (a real reliable source!) that jeremiah said that the new mouse album could come out anytime in the near future. Keep fingers crossed!

Also, you guys should check out Vells. it is jeremiahs newer other band. they are interesting and highly enjoyable to me at least. Check em out if curious you may find a hidden gem.

Sadly, thats all that I heard. I don't know what their newest CD is called. I hope to hear more news on the band soon.

The new ablum will be called "We were already dead before the ship sunk." or "We were already dead before the ship went under." Something along those lines. Plus they got a new guitar player. The guitarist from The Smiths.

I love isaac brock's crazy live moments. http://modestmouselive.zeromethos.com/ He has these moments that pull me in so deep i feel like im floating in the music. His message is burned in his music and gets to my heart and brain and its just crazy sometimes. if anyone knows any other crazy genious musicians who are all heart, email me at jamesb2@umbc.edu. If you want to really feel his message listen to the live shows at that site, especially the 1998 and 1999 performances. My favorite is Stars are Projectors from the Speak in tongues concert. Give it a real listen.
