Silverlight Cream for December 19, 2008 -- #461

In this issue: David Wynne, Damon Payne, Nigel Sampson, Jeff Prosise, Ning Zhang, and Terence Tsang.

Shoutouts:

John Papa's book is out... I haven't seen it, but it's one I'm going to have to get... all the info I've seen says it's a keeper: Now Available: Data Driven Services with Silverlight 2!.

Martin Grayson has announced an update to the Patient Journey Demonstrator with lots of screenshots and a video demo: Patient Journey Demonstrator December 2008 Released .

Keep an eye on Jeff Weber's blog ... he's looking at entering the MIX 10K challenge... should be interesting... 10k Diversion.

And come-on... I've only got 7 ornaments on My Tree ... go there, check "View Greeting", then at the bottom take the "Look at Christmas tree..." link... it'll add an ornament ... then email me yours and I'll reciprocate :)

From SilverlightCream.com:
Silverlight Treemap Algorithm
David Wynne sent me this Treemap algorithm to fill a space with rectangles of varying size depending upon what they're containing... cool demo on the bottom of the post, and all the code too... thanks David ... I'm watching your blog now!
Run time is design time for AGT [1]
This is an old post from Damon Payne, but it's the second one in his AGT sequence ... I'm going to catch up I hope :) ... looks like a good one to work along with to me... and since you can jump ahead to the end, you can see what you'll be producing!
Creating a Dependency Property of type System.Type in Silverlight
Nigel Sampson ran into problems, found a work-around and is detailing both for us.
Custom Data Binding to Cells in Silverlight DataGrid Template Columns (and a Novel Use for Value Converters)
Jeff Prosise always seems to tackle some of the harder questions, but what would we expect from him :) ... the title says it all, but he talks about the problems and solution too!
Silverlight Debugging with Visual Studio
Ning Zhang has a post up that should be important to all of us... hints and tricks about debugging your Silverlight with Visual Studio... what? ... you don't need to debug?... :)
Silverlight: 3D Image Rotator Beta using Kit3D
Terence Tsang's latest he's calling a 'beta' because he's using Kit3D on this rotator... he lists some of his frustrations learning the tool, but his end result is very cool :)

Stay in the 'Light!

Thanks for linkback - I have it in mind to do a bit more work on this to eventually create a TreeMap control in the same vain as the SL Toolkit Charts.
