About two weeks ago, my Facebook account decided to stop listening to Twitter. For several days, the status was not updating. I finally got frustrated at it enough to ask my Twitter sources for help. They came through with a great Facebook tool called TwitterSync.
I really like TwitterSync, but I have learned a few lessons that might make it easier for you to set up and use the tool.
First, when you add the application to your Facebook account you will see the Home tab for the application. The Home tab makes it look like you have to make lots of decisions before you can run it. You don't. As you can see in this screen shot, you can run with it by just adding your Twitter ID.
If you want your twits converted to Facebook style updates, you can prepend your twits with a verb. If you are going to do this, I recommend keeping it simple and using either "is" or "twitted".
One of the confusing points about TwitterSync is the fact that it looks like you need to put in either both your Twitter ID and your password or neither of them. This is not true. To activate it, you need to put in your Twitter ID. You only need to put in your password if your updates are protected (also known as locked).
During the course of showing someone else how to use TwitterSync, I learned another lesson: It only picks up twits that it doesn't see as replies. If you start a twit with @, the twit won't ever show up in your Facebook feed. I think the idea is that if you are @'ing someone, you are replying and your Facebook friends won't understand the context.
Other than that, I really like the tool. It keeps my Facebook status up to date and makes life a little easier. Now, I hear that I should check out FriendFeed to make my social media life even simpler. I'll be doing that over the next couple of days. If I like it, you will hear about it!
