Nikon has come up with a revision ot its professional grade D2X camera dubbed the D2Xs.

Engadget has a round up of all the improvements.

Something that puzzles me is that why Nikon has left the 8MP DSLR range empty. Canon have several models in that Range, but with Nikon its a big jump from 6.1 (D70, D70s, D100, D50) to 10.2 (D200)

Because printable image size increases with the square of megapixels, not linearly. A 6 to 8 mp jump only gives you around an additional inch of print size (or an additional inch of crop at the same quality). Its not worth it to the consumer, and its definately not worth it to Nikon to fracture their accessory marketplace for that.

Now, if they would unify their accessory line, then that would go a long ways to reducing that problem, but the d70 and d200 are too powerful of a camera, if they used consistant accessories, it would complety cannablize the D2X and D2H market.

Thanks for the pointer on print size Jason. But that would naturually lead me to the question of why Canon have several models in that range.

I didnt quite get your drift on the accessories there. Care to elaborate a bit more, or perhaps blog your views?
