Windows 7 DVD Maker

I'm playing with the Windows 7 beta.  It includes a DVD Maker program.  There is no Movie Maker in the beta, but Windows Live has a Movie Maker beta for download (more Internet/cloud features, but not the same as Movie Maker for XP).  The DVD Maker too is limited.  You can add movies to a project, adjust a few options (4:3 vs. 16:9, etc.), select a menu style and go.  A major problem I have is that many of my movies from my Sony HDD Handycam are short segments.  I may have 10 short segments of soccer game, which DVD Maker turns into 10 chapters on the DVD.  Thus, when watching the final output on my TV, there is this big wacky pause between scenes.  With Movie Maker for XP you can stitch together these segments, provide your own transitions, and select your chapter breaks - but you couldn't write to a DVD.

Adding the ability to write to a DVD in Windows 7 is great, especially for the home user (think PC vs. Mac).  Other features are very home/family based.  But DVD Maker as it currently stands is but a toy.

Too bad you missed out on Vista - I have been making good movies for years. I only hope "Live Movie Maker" lives up to its predecessor (it currently does not).

I've never been able to get DVD Maker on Vista (or Win 7) to work. It always fails to add avi files or complete the burn.

I just burned a dvd using Windows 7 DVD maker and i chose the 16:9 aspect ratio but when testing the finished dvd it played back in 4:3... Its a downloaded movie and when i watch the movie on my computer it plays in what looks like a widescreen format 16:9, so I chose this option in the options menu but the final dvd plays back all squished in a 4:3... hmm

Windows 7 DVD Maker works great with Flipshare produced movies. Flipshare encodes its movies in .wmv from the original .mp4 files. DVD Maker encodes in DVD format. Both encoding session took a long time, even with an OC Q9550 (3.8ghz). Otherwise the result came out great.

Hello there.
I'm trying to use Windows 7 DVD Maker. But i didn't yet. Because there were some problems. I mean when I do everything and the project is ready to burn, in burning get an error. So what I have to do?

Seriously Microsoft really needs to get more dvd friendly. Traditionally in the past the ms player is terrible almost worth less. If they are playing around with a maker it's way over due. Hopefully they can do a better job than what they have in the past.

i have the 7600 enterprise build (latest public test release) and have 3 seperate avi files and the maker sets everyting up well and the preview looks great the burn goes smooth till the last second when it trys to tell me my disc is bad(brand new dvd -r)or that my burner is bad(it burnt the iso of win 7 no prob lol)so conclusion is that it still sucks....

I also have the issue with Windows DVD maker (Windows 7), where I burn using 16:9 settings, but movie gets 'squashed' horizontally when viewing the DVD.

I've read many formums with users having this problem - but still no fix.

Anyone solved this one?

Are you sure that the video files you are adding to the DVD Maker project are in 16:9 format? If you are exporting from Movie Maker, for example, you need to make sure that the Movie Maker output settings are 16:9. This is in addition to setting DVD Maker to 16:9.

Win 7 DVD Maker is missing my wish about .mov movies. Too bad, I need them. Interesting, Media center plays .mov files!!
