Reviewing books is the best deal ever for those that like to read...or collect books!

For those of you out there that enjoy building your personal libraries or extending your knowledge by reading about cutting edge technology...I have to suggest that you get into reviewing books for some of the big technical book publishers out there.  I was just recently introduced to this world and must say that I have enjoyed it quite a bit.  The books that I have reviewed are not yet released so I can't mention their titles.  However, I can say that they did cover all the new fancy features of C# 3, ASP.NET, NHibernate, and jQuery (if you haven't heard of jQuery and you are a web developer...check it out...very cool!).  Not only do you get the content in front of you way before anyone else has access to it (in PDF or Word)...you also get (depending on the publisher)...$50 per chapter that you review...a printed version of the book once it is published...and your name in the book as a reviewer!  For me, just getting early and free access to cutting edge information is worth my time reviewing other people's work.

I am currently working with Manning, O'Reily, and Packt Publishing.  They were very easy to get involved with (just contact their editors and mention that you would like to be a technical reviewer).  I also contacted Microsoft Press and WROX...but have yet to hear back from them!  I will keep fighting that battle as I enjoy their books quite a bit.
