Andrea B. Williams The Pragmatic Optimist

The Greater Charleston .NET User Group (GCNUG) (www.gcnug.org) hosted South Carolina Code Camp 3.0 in Charleston, SC this past weekend (10/13/07).  This was an incredible event. All of the speakers, both local and national (even International with one Canadian!), were top notch. I honestly felt like I was at a real Microsoft conference rather than a locally-run User Group Code Camp. The participation in the sessions by local technologist attendees was animated and engaged. I learned from both the speakers and the attendees. I'm really proud to be a part of GCNUG.

I attended the following sessions:

Steve Porter, Wintellect, Steve's blog  - "Managed Code Shines in Silverlight"

Chad Brooks, Microsoft, Chad's blog -"The Designer/Developer Experience with Silverlight "

Joe Healy, Microsoft, Devfish.net - "Intro to Expression Web, and why every VS2005 Dev needs it", and "VS 2008 -Web"

Sue Googe, Northrop Grumman, Sue's blog - "Facelift your Application with Ajax"

I would have attended one more session but I was also helping out (yes, I was an orange-vested one).  Orange hunting vests were worn by volunteers.  This seemed to go over very well since it made it obvious who to go to for help, though there was a bit of ribbing from our Canadian speaker (Jeff Loucks) about the need to wear hunting vests indoors to avoid being shot.

The food from Dunkin' Donuts and Qdoba was excellent.

If you attended, I'd love to hear about your experience, what you got out of the sessions you attended, and any suggestions for future Code Camps.
