Windows 7 - Booting from a VHD

I’m attempting to create a duel boot on my laptop using a VHD of Windows 7.  I heard you could do this, but then I found this great article on http://www.SevenForums.com that describes it in great detail -  How to Create and Attach a Virtual Hard Disk in Windows 7

I’ve already created the VHD of Windows 7.  That seemed extremely painless, but extremely unintuitive if it wasn’t for this article.  I believe you have the ability to map to your original hard drive as a network share.

The great thing about this is that you can run the VHD as if it’s a physical hard drive.  You do not have to reserve part of your resources for the host.  The ideal situation in my mind is to a separate virtual for every member of the family, with a common network share.  If you buy a new box, you can just move the VHD to the new box.  If one of the kids gets a virus, you just rebuild their VHD, not yours.  Sounds ideal, with out exception…. You need a license for each.  I haven’t checked yet, but I’m hoping it’s like vista ultimate where you can have multiple virtual on one license as long as it runs on the same box.

I’ll post more as I go through this.

Cheers,
