I'v just come across the keyboard shortcut for closing the current tab in VS2010. For a while I was annoyed the ctrl+w wouldn't close the tab as in IE...

For some reason the (default) shortcut for VS2010 is CTRL+F4 - go figure :-/

Ctrl+F4 has been the original shortcut from the original windows to close windows inside a multi document application.

At some point some application put the Ctrl+W to close tabs. My first experience was with Total Commander I think. Maybe browsers had already implemented the combination.

The combination is much easier that kind of replaced the original Ctrl+F4. Most applications support both if there aren't any conflicts.
