I got an e-mail this morning from a marketing manager who was advocating their new service. They even offered a free trial of the software, so I thought hey, why not. If it's good then I may actually write about it.
"Just a quick heads up on a brand new service for cell phones (www.YouMail.com) that I think your readers will get a kick out of! YouMail allows you to record unique customized voice mail greetings based on caller ID. Imagine one greeting for your mom, another for your wife and more for each of your close friends or top clients. All other callers receive your regular greeting.
They have a couple other great features including forwarding your cellular voice mail to any email address (drunk dialers beware!) as well as DITCHMAIL, where you record a message for an individual and then hang up on them! (Great for ex's or telemarketers).
Service is free during the beta (available in the US on Verizon, Cingular and T-Mobile). Check it out at www.youmail.com. "
Well it turns out that they haven't done their homework. I don't live in the US and as such their trial doesn't work for me. It classes my mobile number as invalid!
So all in all... a bad move. I would have loved to have a play with the service to see if it was any good. I would probably even have reviewed it etc. But people need to realise that the world is not limited the US and that there are other English speaking countries out there. Mobility and the internet are not just a US phenomenon and if you are going to do an online beta test, at least internationalise it. (please!)
Companies such as this should only contact me with details of new mobility products that all my readers can benefit from, and not just the US ones.
