Depends on the lady in question. The ones I've met so far have been pretty cool. Of course, there are few exceptions that prove the rule.
As the definition, I don't think there's just one universally applicable definition. My own view is that most non-IT folks confuse "nerd" with "geek" (IMO, the distinction is that the latter gets paid :) )

geek (gek)
n. Slang.
1) A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
2) A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.
can't really see anyone calling Ozzy a geek can you?

You see I find that a bit out of date these days... Geeks seem to be better at socialising than they used to be...
I think you find that geeks are very smart & very technically sound, but also good at socialising... at least the ones I know are.

I guess it depends on context?
Like a computer illiterate person would say "that geek" ... and mean that person who likes computers.
hereas geek to me means someone I feel comfortable talking about computers too, as they are deep in to them and won't flinch ;-)
Does that help? lol
