The first month as a Geek
Well having had my Geek blog site I have managed to find time for 10 posts (11 including this one!) and 1 article. OK I will be the first to admit that they aren't all technical but hey, we can't all be geeky all the time. There has to be some time for fun! So what has this month brought about in the world of Sarah.... My distaint for MS developer support on the CE platform began I fell in love with SQLite A new bike and a very long first bike ride.... 54 miles Lots of testing and problem solving ......

Windows CEDB and CF Cards
Well... after 2 and a half months of testing and fault finding we have finally sorted our problem out with the Windows CE 4.2 platform. The culprit was not the wireless drivers or the zero config, or even the tick count. It was the CEDB! Can you believe it... I can. The CEDB is totally unreliable on CF Cards and can cause the entire windows platform to crash for no apparent reason! We updated the Windows CE platform with all the QFE's and service packs but still it fell over. So what can you do about ......

Are Microsoft losing their Mobile Market to Linux and Open Source?
Here's a question for you? Are Microsoft losing market share to the world of open source? Recently there has been a lot of work being done with the Linux operating systems to port it over to Mobile devices. MontaVista creators of Mobilinux and the open source linux os used by Nokia provided by Maemo.org are getting a serious hold on this market area now. An article from The Feature really does manage to sum this up well. It's funny, they have done the analysis of the market that I was part way through ......

I completed London to Brighton!
I think I must be a little insane... I did the London to Brighton bike ride on Sunday in the blazing sunshine! It was beautiful weather but I was soooo glad to have plenty of water and fuluids. It was hard work but so enjoyable. I am even considering doing it again some time. (Hopefully when it is less crowded!) It's definately good for catching the sun... I have some funny lines where my shorts and T-shirt were.... but at least I didn't end up sunburnt, unlike some people I know who were there! ......

London to Brighton Training
Well I have had one days worth of training so far for London to Brighton.... A little late to be starting on that one... but hey. Better late than never! At least I know what I am letting myself in for on Sunday now. Pain... torture... and a very long bike ride! I did a 15 mile training session last night with two of my work collegues and I struggled with it on a bike that I really don't know well enough, especially not on hills. Hills = Evil... :S So I will struggle quite a lot on the very very ......

Windows CE.Net Problem
I have been having a BIG problem with debugging an application on CE.Net. This is NOT a standard problem. Basically I have an application that is collecting data from a TCP/IP port and then transforming this into web pages and logging the data to a CEDB on a CF Card. There are wireless drivers for the Cisco wireless card on the build but there is no card in the device at the moment. (This we think is inconsequential... as it fails with or without the wireless card). The problem is after 4 and a half ......

Please Sponsor me for my London to Brighton Bike Ride!
I am asking everyone who visits my site to donate something to the British Heart Foundation. I have been called in at the last minute by our office team to fill in and now desperately need to get as much sponsorship on my form as humanly possible in 10 days. More details of the event can be seen HERE! To sponsor me just click on the link to my sponsorship page. I have never done a bike ride anywhere near as long as this one! I will need all the support that I can get! Dig deep and Thank You! Sarah ......

Geek Dinner Round Up
I was at last night’s Geek dinner along with 150+ other Geeks and techies (and a few journalists as well, just for good measure). It was an amazing atmosphere at the restaurant and everyone was so happy to be there and talking amongst like minded people. There were people from all over the world, at the dinner ranging from American, India, South Africa and the UK. I have to say I was very impressed by the quality of people at the dinner; everyone I met had a pretty impressive resume. I have ......

Windows Mobile for Mobile Phones?!
I got all excited hearing that Windows Mobile 5.0 was going to be released. Only for my hopes to be quashed once again by the likes of HTC and other mobile phone providers. It seems that they have all clubbed together and decided that they will not be doing ROM upgrades from Windows Mobile 2003 SE to the latest and greatest because it is in their interest to make phone users buy the new phones just for the OS!!!! This annoys developers such as myself because we want to play with this OS as well as ......

My first post as a Geek
Well, after a little bit of debating and a bit of a kick in the right direction, I have finally moved from msn spaces to the world of Geeks. I hope that the people that were reading my old blogs take note of the change and find me! I wouldn't want to lose anyone along the way! I have moved so that I can write both blogs and the odd article as well. This means that I have the space available to give a whole lot more information to anyone and everyone who needs, wants or desires it. Pop by and let ......
