Just a quick note on this - be aware of what you are getting yourself in to........???

Before updating to this new ROM you used to be able to run:
RegeditSTG.exe the trusted version of regedit from HTC - not anymore, nor will any other Registry tool work

So you will not be able to make the registry changes at:
Start Regedit.exe and change the following registry keys:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2 => 1 (RAPI)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16 => 40 (Cert)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001017 = 128 => 144 (?)

Looking through the posts at MoDaCo and SPV-Developers it appears that Orange should respond to my email request for an Application Unlocking tool reasonably smartly - but I'll wait and see what happens?

All this, and I haven't been back in to the office yet so I haven't been able to check the Push Email system...

Hi toto,

You need to send an email to Olivier at Orange Developers and request the unlock tool specifically for your phone - it will be created to match your IMEI number!

Address - developers@orange.co.uk

Other details that they will need are:
My IMEI Number is - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Full name -
The Mobile Number of the SPV to be unlocked - +441111111111
Daytime Contact Number - +4411111111
Daytime email address -

Cheers,
Dave

OK I could unlock it without the orange IMEI specific tool.
Using the very last i-mate rom was the key.
I just had to update the operator in the header to allow flashing, then I ran the usual app unlock process with the reg editor and the tools ...
And I must say that the i-mate rom allow developping in debug mode mode without installing the microsoft fix as for orange aku2 normallt unlocked.

Hi Toto,
So from what you're saying the iMate ROM for the SP5 is a lot looser than the one from Orange? In that the security is not so harsh and it let's you edit the registry from the start?

Hi Dave, yes exactly, and it is working fine.
In fact the Orange AKU2 rom has blacklisted the reg application and locked some registry keys so that you cannot change them even with a signed editor.

I don't suppose you have managed to figure out HOW Orange did it? So that we could then reverse it? ;-))

Hi my goal is to run a microsoft up to date OS with minimal operator change on it, and the i-mate rom is actually perfect for that.
(i-mate_SP5_WWE_2.5.331.2)
That version is also multilangual, so that you can switch to your prefered language :)

This process worked for me..I downloaded regeditstg.exe and changed the keys as instructed above ie Start Regedit.exe and change the following registry keys:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2 => 1 (RAPI)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16 => 40 (Cert)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001017 = 128 => 144 (?). Re Booted phone.Then i downloaded tweaks2k2.net from http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=20050317130430805 installed program then used menu/security and ticked "check to unlock your phone". Hey presto phone unlocked. Installed unsigned apps. Changed registry back to their original dword values. Regeditstg.exe still works, I can still install unsigned apps because i left "check to unlock your phone" on. I am using Orange c600..Hope this helps..

I am having exactly this problem with the Orange spv M5000 with the AKU2 update. I need to edit the registry to add a hosts file entry for our web server for ActiveSync. The push email is great, but I can only test it over http, not https. This means I can't release it to the staff here yet.
I have just emailed the address above.
Has anyone had any success with Olivier at Orange Developers yet ?

I just got this:
Hi,

Orange follow Microsoft's recommendation that people purchase a private key from one of the many Certificate authorities whose public key is already on the device. E.g. Thawte, Verisign, Equifax. However we realise that not everyone wants or is able to go down this route. This being the case we can offer a service to members of Orange Partner or corporate customers (through your Orange account manager) whereby we supply the instructions for creating an XML file that we turn into a CAB that will install a specific certificate on any Orange handset. We restrict it to members of Orange Partner as we can then have a record of the companies details in case of abuse. Can you confirm your membership details (it is free to join if you are not a member) and I will send you the details needed.

Regards,

Hi Nick,

Just run with Olivers instructions, he is quite helpful, but don't forget he has to tow the line at his end and follow "the corporate line". You might also want to request the App Cert Unlocker while you are at it?

Hi Dave
Although I managed to get the cert installed withought a signed Orange CAB file I replaced it with the one Oliver sent. Sadly, I still get the message "The certificate was issued by a company you have chosen not to trust" this is annoying, as it is sat in the Root Certificates store ! Has anyone else had this problem? - Orange have told me I need to talk to Microsoft - of course !

Message for toto or anyone, how did you change the operator heading in the i-mate update ?

# re: Orange SPV C600 AKU2 (MSFP) Update - MORE!! - read this before updating!!! 2/19/2007 10:39 AM Matthew Sharlot
Orange - why? Why lock the registry - surely anybody going to the length of editting the registry obviously knows the security implications and should be down to the individual user? If you ring orange they are about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard. So here is my plea to orange - don't lock the registry or stop selling smartphones - I have wasted over 12 hours of my life over the last 3 years as eveytime I upgrade I have to go through the same thing, each time with it getting a little harder.
