Blogging with Word 2007

As I began fooling around with my new Geekswithblogs blog I noticed a little checkbox in the Options section called "Allow webservices". Obviously that was some sort of API for uploading new blogentries, but how do I access it? Did I have to write my own app access it?

No, Office 2007 has an awesome feature for blogging. It allows you to hook up to pretty much any blogging API including Blogger, the company Sharepoint, CommunityServer, Windows Live Spaces, WordPress, TypePad and most importantly any blog that supports Atom or MetaWeblog. How sweet for me that Geekswithblogs has support for Metaweblog.

Worth mentioning is also that Microsoft has not tried to invent their own specification for blogging, instead they have implemented pretty much everything that is on the market.

Start off by creating your account and then you are ready to go!

The experience is just as friendly and powerful as you would expect from a feature like this.

Good feature indeed, except no image upload support for (at least) Blogger. If you want to upload pics, you have to upload them to an external server and not the photo service provided by Blogger. Probably because of closed API, but still makes this feature pretty useless, since most blogs contain pictures of some sort...

That does'nt really have anything to do with Word itself, it is Blogger that has no support for imageuploading via API.

This doesn't work for me. I supply the correct info, but get back a message saying that Word can't register my account. I tried the same thing with Live Writer beta and it worked fine.

Hi Stan,

I have the same problem with Word 2007. I'm using Windows Live Spaces for blogging.

Any ideas???

Thanks.
