Flash 8 File Upload and Download

This is cool! Macromedia Flash 8 has introduced built-in support for downloading and uploading (with help of server side script) files with server. It is notable that the the player will be able to support uploading more than one file to the server, you can check out the worked out examples at Oniam Software Blog.

Advantage is that now displaying a progress of file upload will be easier. I am not sure if the post-back can be avoided with the help of asp.net 2, will have to check that out.

Thanks for the feedback, I am working on a solution similar to that on my personal site, once its ready users will be able to enroll for blog updation alerts. In the meanwhile using a RSS reader would be a better option I guess.

Hi, is there any way how to pass any other data like file comments with file to server side script?

With the new Flash I/O capabilities, would it be possible to have a user choose an image file on their computer, resize/compress that image file BEFORE upload and then upload the smaller file to the server?

Can files be manipulated or used in memory before interacting with the server?

Cheers,
Baz
