Perv-busting with help of technology
The register has published a news about a subway flasher who was caught on the camera phone by one of his victim. The victim also posted the pics on the net using flickr and other services, and it lead to quick recognition of the culprit. Now that's fast justice with help of technology :) For the interested, the camera used was a Samsung SGH-777...

Flash 8 File Upload and Download
This is cool! Macromedia Flash 8 has introduced built-in support for downloading and uploading (with help of server side script) files with server. It is notable that the the player will be able to support uploading more than one file to the server, you can check out the worked out examples at Oniam Software Blog. Advantage is that now displaying a progress of file upload will be easier. I am not sure if the post-back can be avoided with the help of asp.net 2, will have to check that out...

Let's welcome the move
I tried posting a comment on the respective post, but the page just seemed to refresh ignoring the comment (I made sure the Image Code was correct; including preserving the case). So I am giving my feedback as a post. I would like to give a feedback on recent Tariq's post on Google Talk. Google has made a right move here. Instead of creating an altogether new IM protocol, they have considered and implemented an existing open platform server for the purpose and this only means even more extensibility....

Gmail 'Unread' label tip
I was recently going through a nice list of Gmail Tips maintained by Jim Barr, it has a lot of useful tips out of which tip 25 tells you how you can create a label named "Unread" which automatically displays all the mails which are not yet read by you (not just in inbox or just in one label, but in your full email account). But when I tried creating such a label gmail didn't allow me, so I tried creating a label named "Unread2" and then tried renaming it to "Unread"...

Google / Gmail gets IMed
Update [26th Aug 2005]: Google has given the configuration details for third party applications in their help center. Have fun. Happy happy!! Google has entered the instant messaging race as well. I downloaded the Google talk client and instantly logged in to my account, only to remember that I don’t have any of my friends online on this network yet. So, an alternate would be to download a Jabber-compatible client which also supports other IM networks like MSN and Yahoo! I choose GAIM, it is...

6 month banning process taken out of usage in UAE!
Everybody was expecting this to happen sooner or later, the 6 month ban which are imposed on expats who cancel their work visa before their duration is completed has been lifted off from practise. As far as anybody knows this was used more as an unpleasent tool to keep talents slipping from company, finally we will be able to pool out talents from inside UAE a lot easier now...

In Love with Netscape Navigator!
Recently downloaded the latest release of Netscape navigator (8.0.3.3), I am quit surprised at the improvements and very practical approach they have taken towards making the new browser acceptable by all. Firstly, there is not ‘yet-another-browser-... concept for this browser; it natively supports both Internet Explorer and FireFox rendering engines. This basically means, if you are viewing a website which does not support Firefox or Internet explorer, choosing the alternate engine...

Samsung DVD-RW and Moser Baer Incompatibility
We recently (two months back) bought a Samsung DVD-RW drive (TS-H552U), the drive worked properly with all CD-R and CD-RW models, but when trying to use it against moser baer products it just doesn’t recognize the disc. Since we also had another DVD-RW on a laptop (Fijutsu) we were able to test the disc and it happened to work just fine. After some one month of running to and fro from the Samsung after sales support centre, they have agreed that they aren’t able to resolve the problem...

GBs become passé
Seems GBs of free space is no longer a news, hriders.com provides 1 TB of free email space. hmmm, hopefully someone will make use of those space and will let us know if thats for sure a 1 TB. As of now I have ample free space and too many email accounts to manage. So I am happy with Gmail itself. Incase anybody is making use of this, do let us know about your experience
