uirrrgh --- SQL server 2008 is driving me nuts

I installed SQl server 2008 with Visual Studio 2008 recently.

After I installed Visual Studio SP1 , all hell broke loose.

Basically, I cannot connect to rem ote database using server explorer.

I get the error below
