MSDN Magazine on your Kindle

Here in the UK we recently had a long weekend due to a public holiday. So what better time to sit back in a comfy chair with the laptop and read the latest MSDN Magazine online? Unless you have children, of course, keeping them trapped in the house for three whole days would be a nightmare. So that means heading out and about on buses, trains and heading off to the Isleworth Spring Fayre. Now you can read the MSDN Magazine web site on a smartphone but on a 9cm screen it’s not ideal, and I don’t really ......

Why I cancelled my Spotify Premium subscription - the tale of an atypical music consumer

Disclaimer Firstly, I must come clean, I work for a digital music company which is involved in digital music streaming and downloads. In no way are the views expressed are the views of the company for which I work. They are merely the subjective views of an atypical music consumer. I say atypical because despite being over 40, I seek out new bands on the radio, using listen again on 6Music and BBC Introducing programmes, such as Christian Carlisle’s excellent BBC Sheffield programme. I make an effort ......

Commercial Software Development – presentation slide decks for DDD Dublin

A bit early this post, as I haven't talked yet, but allows me to use the fast WiFi to upload the presentations in advance and make sure they are there after my talk. I've created a low bandwidth version of the presentation with less graphics and animated slides as separate pages, available as a PDF (or PDF in a ZIP file), http://www.tigernews.co.uk/... http://www.tigernews.co.uk/... ......

Virtualisation for developers - presentation from VBUG London (16 September 2010)

Thanks to VBUG London for hosting my penultimate Virtualisation for Developers talk (the last one is at NxtGen Hereford in October). It was a real whirlwind tour of VirtualPC, VirtualBox, VMWare Player, Workstation, ESXi and Hyper-V Server. Sorry, Citrix, you were mentioned but didn't get in. I've uploaded the slidedeck as both PowerPoint and a PDF with the speaker notes (where all the good stuff is). Virtualisation for Developers PDF (ZIP'd) Virtualisation for Developers PowerPoint (ZIP'd) I'm down ......

Finally, I have my HP 6910p laptop running with 8Gb RAM

Today, I received two Corsair Value Select 4Gb DDR SO-DIMMs (from overclock.co.uk) for my aging HP 6910p to give it the extra lease of life to keep it going until the end of 2010. And here is the proof that Windows 7 64-bit happily sees all 8Gb, There are no 4Gb modules are officially supported for the HP 6910p (they didn’t exist when it was first build). I was taking a bit of a gamble, and relying on the UK distance selling regulations which meant that even if they didn’t work I’d be able to send ......
