The Register reports anything but IE as Internet browser. Well that's good that some vulnerebilities are found and I am hoping that they will be fixed soon, but it is not that easy to ditch IE for that matter. Here are my reasons:-

  • I don't mind using other Internet browsers and if I had to switch over to some other browser at this stage, I will switch over to Opera. The problem lies in the fact that most developers design their website keeping IE in mind the sites don't render in the way they were designed to if we start using other browsers (this happens quite a bit)
  • To give you an example .TEXT does not render well (especially the Admin pages) with Opera.
  • I cannot browse Microsoft MSDN library (the side bar) nor from Opera neither from FireFox.
  • Bigger & better websites says specifically “Best viewed using IE 6.0“
  • I cannot use Gmail using most other browsers
  • Most of the toolbars are only developed in IE
  • Plug-ins work better with IE

Now these arer not my excuses for using IE, but comparing the benefits that I get from IE, I will better stick to it otherwise I will be loosing a lot of my productive time. I think Microsoft better start working hard on fixing all the vulnerebilities so can make IE more and more safer or industry should start moving towards focusing and start using industry standards so everything can be browsed easily from any other browser.

Yes, security is also very important, but I will try to find better solutions to problems because 85% of people use IE on the internet.
