BookCrossing.com is a very interesting concept, I liked it too much. I had an encounter with a book today in my own suburb while I was shopping. I found book lying on one corner of a shop. I book had a bookmark of Bookcrossing.com and had a small blurb of what Bookcrossing.com is and how it works. I came home browsed their website and indeed I was impressed. One another form of sharing that can take place and can give people much in return.
I will write down my few minutes on Bookcrossing.com website and what my understanding is. It is a website where you can track movement of books and search books around your interest group. For example, I might have a book, I might have finished reading it, then I register that book on Bookcrossing.com and I write the BCID no. on the book (book crossing ID ) and put it in the wild where others can find it. Other people when find this book and if it interests them, they pick it up and register the book on Bookcrossing.com website with the BCID and saying that where the book was found and where the book is going to be. When that person finishes reading the book then can leave the book again in the wild and then somebody else finds them and the cycle goes on. On the website if the book is regularly registered, you can track where the book is travelling, who is it with and few other demographics.
The website had currently 4,059 Computer books ranging all different topics. along with thousands of other books. Now next time when I finish reading books, I will for sure going to register on Bookcrossing.com and let it move from then. My salutes to Reno who seems to be a creator of this website and concept.
