Localizing display properties in the PropertyGrid

So, localizing display properties in the PropertyGrid has been done before. Probably ten different ways. However, until the .NET Framework 2.0 it required some messy implementation in the concrete class. Version 2.0 adds the TypeDescriptionProvider which can be tied to a particular class using the TypeDescriptionProviderAttribute. The attribute accepts a type that inherits the TypeDescriptionProvider base class...

Notes on using a CTE in SQL Server 2005

One of the uses mentioned for common table expressions (CTE) in SQL Server 2005 is recursive queries. A CTE allows you to define a virtual view that can be used in another statement. I'll show two examples using a CTE. The first involves a recursive query and the second is used to create a pivot table.

Christmas haul
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! It was a nice day for me and my wife. We spent the day at her family's after opening the gifts we had for each other. I got several things including a laser level (nothing like adding some technology to a mundane task), but mainly I got a good boost to my programming library. The following are the books that I got as gifts: Code Complete Writing Secure Code Design Patterns in C# Pattern Hatching: Design Patterns Applied Introducing SQL Server 2005 for Developers ......

iMotion EdgeWare 5.1 First Impressions

I was anxious to install the new version of the iMotion EdgeWare platform since Wednesday when it came via Federal Express. My installation was delayed, because of some competing priorities, but mostly, because I wanted to setup a machine without interfering with my current work that I could use to test my .NET Framework 2.0 components.

Odd library selection behavior

I hope my weblog doesn't turn into the Visual Studio 2005 bug site. But, I've ran into some additional anomalous behavior. The problem occurred when I was unit testing some classes in Visual Studio. The project is a class library (Library A) that accesses another class library (Library B) that is not part of the solution. Now the crux of the problem is that Library B was recently converted for use under 2.0. I have this library (different Framework versions) in different project folders.
