I am working on finishing day one at my new job. Those of you who know what I am doing will appreciate some of the humour implicit in these statements, I think.
- That little voice in the back of my head is definitely saying "Am I a really doing this for a living?" It's not a big deal, and it is completely ok. Really. I don't mind it a bit. I just keep finding it a little surreal.
- It is a tomb here. No lights on and no one talks to speak of. That's ok, too. Just gotta find a desk lamp for those times when I need a light. Might be a little louder with the staff in (most everyone is on VK).
- My desk is spartan to be sure. No shelves, drawers, etc. I have a desk and a chair. If the other place was a cube farm, then this is a cube flowerbox. These might grow up into cubes someday. :-) Again, this is fine too. I just need to dig around for set of drawers to give me a little storage.
- My machine rocks! It is a beast Dev class machine with quad and 4 GB. Very slick!
- We are going to use Selenium open source testing tool, I think, to get started. Should be fine, but it's something new to me. Probably going to be writing our test code in Java since this is a Java shop. Can't hurt, right? Nice to expand the toolset. Gonna have to see about getting a good reference on the subject.....
- My boss intends to have me do automation 100% of the time. Writing, designing, and running. That will be my life. Yay!
More to come, I am sure, as the time passes, but for now, we're off to a good start.

Answer to some questions below:
a) do you get an employee discount?
Sort of. The test environment is accessible outside of the firewall if you have the proper credentials. Will be great for testing in emergencies.
b) is there any art on the walls?
None. This is the most spartan shop I've ever seen.
c) Java? wtf?
Yep, great chance to get into it. :-)
